Bio

Clarke Reid, originally from Seattle, has lived in both Chile and Spain, experiences that have deeply enriched his musical perspective with diverse influences and inspiration.

He began piano lessons at an early age and quickly developed a love for artists like The Beatles and bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, thanks to his father’s influence. In high school, Clarke performed with the acclaimed Roosevelt Jazz Band in Seattle—an experience that demanded precision, discipline, and extensive practice, giving him a strong foundation in jazz piano and theory that continues to shape his music today.

While studying in college under the mentorship of Cuong Vu, Clarke explored free jazz and improvisation through works like John Zorn’s “Cobra” and joined an eight-member live hip-hop band called Dyno Jamz.

From 2011 to 2016, he lived in Chile and Spain, where he immersed himself in the local music scenes—performing with a 10-piece cumbia band, collaborating with flamenco dancers and guitarists, forming a jazzy busking duo with vocalist Cherie, and recording an album with his Spanish jazz trio.

Later, back in Seattle, Clarke balanced a career as a classroom teacher with his passion for music. He performed regularly with The Cumbieros, started an a cappella group, and stayed active in numerous projects and jam sessions. In 2023, he relocated to Durango to join Desert Child, committing full-time to his life as a professional musician. He is also currently studying trumpet to expand his instrumental range.

Clarke’s musical influences span from Ray Charles to Keith Jarrett, Celia Cruz to Bobby McFerrin, reflecting his broad appreciation for genre-blending and musical connection. For Clarke, music is about communication and collaboration—listening deeply, reacting authentically, and creating shared moments of expression.
