Bio
Alex Graf was raised in the Hudson Valley in New York State where he took up guitar at age 12. Since then he has studied a broad variety of genres, landing most solidly within the jazz and bluegrass idioms. At Bard College in New York, Alex was mentored by Mike DeMicco (Brubeck Brothers Quartet) while he was working towards a double major in Environmental Studies and Music. Alex has lived in Durango for the past five years and has since taken a serious turn towards playing bluegrass. His playing is characterized by melding the flatpicking influences of Tony Rice, Doc Watson and Billy Strings with his jazz heroes of Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane. Alex currently plays with his Durango- based bluegrass band, Tone Dog.
